SAP BTP Architecture
SAP Business Technology Platform is structured hierarchically to help organizations manage applications, environments, and resources across regions. At the top is the global account, created after signing a contract with SAP. It defines the contractual relationship and manages directories, subaccounts, members, entitlements, and quotas.
Within the global account, directories (optional, up to 7 levels deep) help structure resources by technical or business units. These contain subaccounts, the operational units where apps are deployed and services consumed. Each subaccount operates independently, with its own security and data management.
Subaccounts inherit entitlements (rights to use services) and quotas (how much can be used) from the global account. When creating one, you select a region like Europe or US East, determining where your data lives and which infrastructure provider (SAP, AWS, Azure, GCP, Alibaba) hosts it.
Attached to each subaccount are environments, SAP BTP’s platform-as-a-service layers. A subaccount can host multiple environments, simplifying user and entitlement management. The main types are

- Kyma: Kubernetes-based, optimized for serverless functions and microservices.
